Businesses are putting AI into their daily work quickly, and the assistants they use are learning how each business really operates: who approves what, which clients pay late, and why decisions were made. Very little of that is written down anywhere else.

Writing on this topic looks at where that learning is kept, who owns it, and what it costs when a business changes the AI it uses or a person leaves. It covers the difference between a tool being able to connect to an assistant and the knowledge actually belonging to the business, and why the first is becoming the minimum anyone expects.

It also covers practical questions owners can ask any AI vendor before committing more of their business to it: whether what the assistant learns can be exported in full, whether another assistant could use it, and who apart from the business can read it.

The aim throughout is plain advice for owners who want the benefits of AI without handing the whole of their business to one supplier.
